empty billboard blurs architecture, advertising & art

Check out this recently erected 'billboard' on the Canadian / US border, designed by Seattle art / architecture firm Lead Pencil Studios

You'd think that something so blatantly anti-capitalism would have to be a stunt put on by the Canadian Tourist Bureau, eh?
Well think again, this intelligent piece of design was funded by the US Federal Government, who are nothing if not art critics.

Lead Pencil Studio's Daniel Mihalyo describes the work like this:
"Borrowing the effectiveness of billboards to redirect attention away from the landscape... this permanently open aperture between nations works to frame nothing more than a clear view of the changing atmospheric conditions beyond."

What an awesome way to celebrate the open spaces between two of the most beautiful and expansive countries on earth.
